Parkland Development has broken ground and moving forward with the newest downtown Muskegon development, Terrace Point Landings.  And keeping the landscape as natural as possible, so the Muskegon Lake shoreline is green.

Brad Gruizinga from Parkland Development described the company and its owner, Jon Rooks goal as, “we are keeping as much of the natural landscape as possible.  We recently finished clearing trees.  Besides the necessary trees to remove for the building envelopes and roads, all the rest were keep to continue the natural feel that Jon is envisions.”

The proposed development, Terrace Point Landing, is a 70-lot “new urbanism” style cluster of single-family homes on the point of land next to the Shoreline Inn and Conference Center.  “40% of the homes will be on the waterfront and the remaining homes having access,” according to Jon Rooks.

The commitment to keeping it green will help to bring balance and stability to the Muskegon.  Mayor Steve Gawron agreed by calling the Terrace Point Landings a game changer for the city’s downtown Muskegon Lake waterfront.

Downtown Muskegon continues to grow and expand.  And as it does, Parkland Properties is adding the process.

“I think the whole emphasis on brining people to live, work, and play downtown can having nothing but a major positive effect on our downtown rebuilding,” Steve Gawron, the mayor of Muskegon said.

The newest project is the Terrace Point landing, which will have 70 homes along the Muskegon Lake.  These homes will be a combination of waterfront and waterfront views.  Each property is expected to range from $150, 000 to $300,000 in price, stated Jon Rooks of Parkland.

Cathy Brubaker-Clarke, the city’s economic development and planning director stated, “These houses will be close to downtown so people can take advantage of all of the cultural and festival events but have the privacy of their own home on Muskegon Lake.”  Brubaker-Clarke also said, “The real plus is that it can bring new people to live downtown”

 

Jon Rooks of Parkland Properties has announced that will be moving his Parkland Development offices into Muskegon.  He has purchased the former Central Fire Station and plans to convert it into the development offices.

 

In addition, Rooks’ company will be investing in a waterfront development on Muskegon Lake and the redevelopment of the former Comerica building into apartments.

 

A portion of the former Central Fire Station will be used by Parkland’s team as it moves from Grand Rapids offices.  Rooks’ has stated that he is in the course of securing another tenant for a segment of the building

“My hope is that this will spur additional development in downtown Muskegon”, Jon Rooks recently stated.  This catalyst is a redevelopment in the heart of downtown Muskegon that will bring much needed jobs to the area.  Rooks and his Parkland Properties, LLC will begin construction on the converting the former Comerica bank building into 48 market ready apartments.

 

Rooks will invest 10.75 million into the conversion, which is planned to be completed in 18 to 24 months. And this is a hopeful catalyst for future development in downtown Muskegon and also surrounding areas.

The University of Michigan Urban Land Institute assembled this fall of 2012 to honor different individuals and organizations for their work and efforts in revitalizing Michigan’s Real Estate environment.  They sought to call to attention those who excelled at rejuvenating communities through work done on various real estate projects.

 

Jonathan Rooks of Parkland Properties made mention of one of these organizations, Colliers International, during a speech at this year’s event. Colliers won the category: Sale/Lease of the Year award/West Michigan.

 

David Czurak of Grand Rapids Business Journal did a fabulous write up in the November issue of the GR Business Journal.  Czurak cited Colliers was awarded for “an intricate deal that involved both a sale and a lease that is adding about 200 jobs to the local economy.”
