Jon Rooks has made a presentation to the Grand Haven Planning Commission seeking their input and support in a new condo project at the Wharf Marina, the city’s only private downtown marina within walking distance of shops and restaurants. He is seeking approval to start a 95-unit condominium project which would include extensive amenities on the top floor including a proposed fitness center, adult’s clubhouse, family clubhouse, outdoor pool and sunning deck and hot tubs. He also thinks this project will help promote more development around the immediate area.

The next steps according to Kristen Turkelson, is to create a preliminary development plan, which would include a traffic impact and market needs study.

Rooks Parkland Properties other projects have been well received.  His Monroe Terrace and City View projects Grand Rapids, MI  have all been sold out.  Jon Rooks and Brad Gruizinga’s Union Square are down to their last four available units.  And the Boardwalk Condominiums along the Grand River in downtown Grand Rapids is 95% sold.

A recent tour by a half-dozen travel writers from around the Midwest through Muskegon County has made an impression.  As they moved north and along Lake Michigan, they made a stop in Muskegon to enjoy a beautiful shoreline community.

Muskegon has much to offer the traveler looking for waterfront beauty and activities year round including the summer and winter luge runs, boating, fishing, sightseeing and relaxing at Shoreline Inn Muskegon’s only Waterfront hotel with the Lake House Restaurant and Bar just steps away.

Having travel writers share the beauty and opportunities for family friendly vacations along West Michigan’s coastline is very beneficial to Muskegon and West Michigan’s economy. Doug Pollock, Shoreline Inn General Manager says, “There is no better time to visit Muskegon than now, with the beauty of the beaches to enjoy.”

Jonathan Rooks of Parkland Properties has recently presented an exciting proposal to the Grand Haven Planning Commission to start a project on the waterfront in Grand Haven, Michigan.  His goal is to build a 95-unit condominium project at the Wharf Marina, by changing one of the current boat storage warehouses into an upscale 7-story condominium building.

“We think this will be a catalyst for development across the road and across the river”, Rooks said at his presentation.  He is pleased by the positive response he has gotten so far. If approved and the numbers are viable, the development could be started sometime in 2013.

Rooks says it’s a great time to vest his efforts into this project as the Grand Rapids, MI Boardwalk and Union Square Condominium developments are close to sold out.

Jon Rooks Parkland Properties has been in business for the last 24 years.  Throughout their 24 year history, they have been developing and redeveloping hundreds of residential and office spaces, as Rooks company has grown dramatically within the last few years to close to 200 employees.

Growth never stops.  Jon Rooks is now venturing into new territory with Monroe North Fitness Center.  Located in the lower level of his Boardwalk Condominiums, Rooks wanted to keep this wonderful option available to his condo clients.  Monroe North had recently had trouble making a go of it, and with Rooks proven track record of turning the unwanted into a desirable option, he jumped on the opportunity.

Monroe North Fitness will be staffed from 8am – 8pm Monday through Friday and also Saturdays from 10am – 2pm.  He recently hired Michael Byle and Julie Zucker to manager the center and added Jolie Mossner as the lead personal trainer.

There is a basic membership available for $19.95 a month and a premium option for $29.95 which gives you 24-hour access and group training classes, such as Zumba and Pilates.

Jon Rooks hears people say, “I wonder what that old building downtown is used for”, or “how could anyone live or work there”, or his favorite, “when are they going to knock that thing down?”  Those are the buildings that he and his Parkland Properties team love.

Rooks and his team specialize in promoting, restoring, and reusing urban redevelopment. They look to see the building, as it once was, a thriving part of the city. People coming and going, condos lit up at night. They see big windows, people on balconies or meeting friends by the poolside.  They love an old building redeveloped and buzzing with life. Jon Rooks, owner of Parkland Properties, is seeking to transform current downtown Grand Rapids, MI structures into dynamic properties with functionality and style.  Rooks shares this comment from a current owner,

“I like the idea of using old structures, of preservation and reuse instead of tearing down and building new buildings. Why not use current buildings to get people to move downtown?”

— Carl Kelley, owner at Boardwalk condos
